The aim of this project is to create a free (open source, OS independent) remake of the classic SSI game Imperialism. While the spirit and many concepts of the original should be preserved it will not be a pure reproduction. It will advance the concept and incorporate elements of modern strategy games.

• Imperialism Free Download for PC is a turn-based strategy game for Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh computers, developed by Frog City Software and published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. («SSI») in 1997.

Imperialism is a managerial strategy game that relies heavily on the management aspect. Basically, you are the leader of one of seven great powers in a randomly generated world. In addition to these great powers, there are numerous minor powers that play important roles in the game as well. Imperialism II is a very complex game and the tweaks inserted by GOG could easily interfere with the DxWnd ones. People who downloaded Imperialism have also downloaded: Imperialism 2: The Age of Exploration, Age of Empires III, Age of Empires 2: The Age of Kings, Panzer General 2, ANNO 1602: Creation of a new world, Great Battles: Collector's Edition, The, Industry Giant 2: Gold Edition, Pacific General.

Imperialism was a great game at its time, not only known for its strategic challenge but also for a great ambient sound. Although it did still run, it was not available for purchase for a long time until it reappeared on GOG.com in 2012. Still the user interface and graphics have aged. Also some parts of the game design (like the battles) were bugged. That’s where this remake starts, providing a free, portable variant of the old Imperialism. The game will most probably be written in Python or Java (see Forum for details). The philosophy is to keep the code as simple as possible, use standard/well tested libraries wherever possible and to demand clean, understandable code always.
