Abstract The Achievement Emotions Questionnaire (AEQ) is a self-report instrument developed to measure the emotions of students in academic situations. The main purpose of this research was to adapt and validate this questionnaire to assess pre-adolescents' class- and test-related emotions towards mathematics. The fundamental role of emotions in education has been revealed in recent years. The control-value theory of achievement emotions has been postulated as one of the most used theories in this field. Thanks to the Achievement Emotions Questionnaire (AEQ), achievement emotions have been measured in different subjects and countries. The purpose of this research was to adapt and validate this.

In this study, it was aimed to adapt The Achievement EmotionsQuestionnaire for Pre-Adolescents (AEQ-PA) scale developed by Peixoto, Mata,Monteiro, Sanches and Pekrun (2015) to Turkish in order to determine thefeelings of success of primary school fourth grade students towards mathematicsclass and test. The original scale consisted of two scales, each consisting of24 items, with six emotions evaluated in each version and prepared as a 5-pointLikert scale. The validity and reliability studies of the scale were conductedon 500 fourth grade students using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The fitindexes showed that the factor structure of the scale provided the desiredlevel of fit indexes with the collected data. The reliability values of thescale were calculated as> .70. As a result, it can be said that the originalstructure of the scale is preserved as it is, and according to the findings, avalid and reliable measurement tool for determining the feelings of achievementof the fourth grade students in mathematics class and test is adapted toTurkish.
